About this course
Showpiece of a 2,800-acre resort and residential project with 3.2 miles of beachfront, Cabo Real Golf Club features a multi-themed, target-style course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. The recent reversal of the club's nines have greatly enhanced the layout's flow and drama.
The front nine works through the desert foothills before falling toward the sea. The par-4 5th plays across a deep arroyo, while the par-3 6th sits on a seaside bluff with the Sea of Cortez as its backdrop.
The back nine delivers the layout's biggest drama. The 14th stretches 454 yards along a canyon to a green elevated some 500 feet above the sea, the par-4 17th doglegs through the dunes, and the par-4 18th plays home past an arroyo and a lake.
Cabo Real has hosted two PGA Senior Slam events, in 1996 and 1999, a measure of its championship pedigree.
Ocean breezes freshen through the afternoon and are very much part of the examination — smart club selection and flight control pay off on the exposed seaside holes.
